Festive Plastic-Free Challenge - December 2019

Image
For the month of December, we are launching a Festive Plastic-Free Challenge.  Each day has a green action you can make towards a zero-waste lifestyle. Our Social Media Team will be posting each day in December - sharing information and inspiration on ways you can complete the daily challenge. Happy Ocean aimed to keep the calendar neutral however you will see on Day 6 the mention of a Christmas Tree. If you don't celebrate Christmas or another holiday in December, you can substitute this day for another green action. We had a Challenge back in June and some individuals used the calendar like a Bingo card, where they crossed off actions each day in no particular order. There are no rules, every action makes a difference. Here is a link to the  Festive Calendar on Google Docs. Please share with your colleagues, friends and family. We would love to hear from you on whether you plan to participate and what region you are from.              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The City of Charlottetown hosted its Third Annual Fix it Fair on Saturday, November 2nd from 10am-12pm at the West Royalty Community Center. The Fix it Far included a Repair Café, Hourly Workshops, and trade show style booths of community groups where participants and community groups can connect and learn about each other. The main feature of the Fix It Fair is the Repair Café, which is a concept that communities throughout North America and Europe are embracing. The Repair Café included talented fixers from a variety of expertise who volunteered their services to assist in the free repair of various household items throughout this event. The role of the fixers was not only to repair broken items but to share their knowledge and teach others how to perform similar repairs. Repairing broken items that would soon be sent to landfill is an important waste-reduction strategy and the City is happy to help promote this and empower people will repair skills through this event.
