Plastic Free Challenge - Day 7
Today's challenge is to "try a bamboo toothbrush". Our plastic toothbrushes sit in landfills forever and release toxic chemicals as they decay, a bamboo toothbrush will naturally decompose after it’s been disposed of. One bamboo toothbrush is equal to four plastic toothbrushes.
The majority of bamboo toothbrushes come in two types: those with nylon bristles, and those with charcoal-infused bristles. When choosing the best toothbrush for you, try a nylon-bristled bamboo toothbrush if you’re looking for an effective clean that’s still gentle on your teeth and gums, or try a charcoal-infused bamboo toothbrush if you want something that’s going to be a little tougher on stains and bacteria.
Moonsnail Soapworks has a good selection of bamboo toothbrushes, and the bristles, handle, wrapper and box are all made from plants. They also have a selection of toothbrushes where their handles are made from recycled yogurt cups and 100% recycled plastic. Lots of varieties to choose from.
If you want to take things a step further and go plastic-free for your whole dental routine you can convert your plastic dental sticks and dental floss containers, to zero waste dental lace which are also refillable.
In addition, you can make your own toothpaste, here is a natural recipe, and as a bonus to being plastic-free you can ensure no chemicals are entering your body unlike with regular toothpastes:
