Plastic Free Challenge - Day 4

Today's challenge is to "do a home inventory of all single-use plastic usage". You can document this however you like, whether it is a mental note when you encounter single-use plastic throughout the day, or jotting it down on a piece of paper or in the notes app on your phone. The goal of today's challenge is to be mindful in your actions, we tend to go into auto-pilot mode  and don't always put our attention to routine actions throughout the day.

Check out this "Personal Plastic Inventory" article (scroll to second paragraph) by Michele Avignon Gravina Water, Inc. Brand Ambassador. She inventories her day - from the plastic that is on her newspaper in the morning, to the plastic cover on her to-go coffee, and the plastic container her snap peas are  in at the grocery store.

Today’s challenge is meant to be a guilt-free exercise but to raise awareness to how we use single-use plastic every day without thinking about it, and once you have an inventory you can make conscious choices every day to eliminate your single-use plastic. For example, I noticed I used a lot of plastic wrap for leftovers and made the change to use glass bowls with covers, it has made such a difference. As well, I was using deodorant that was natural but in a plastic container. When GEBIS made some natural deodorant in glass mason jars I instantly made the switch. And I must say it is the best deodorant I have ever used, I even have two friends that purchased some as well.

Lori from our Happy Ocean group  has completely eliminated plastic from her life. I am so impressed by her efforts. One meeting we had she was tasked with looking into alternatives to the big plastic laundry detergent bottle. Instead of just researching it, she took action and not only changed her laundry detergent, but everything to do with her laundry and cleaning products too. She brought in all the items and inspired us all to make efforts to do the same.

Don't forget to add the fourth “R”  Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle when thinking about the environment. And the fifth “R” Rejoice your efforts. Small changes, big results.
